Looking Unto Jesus

Hebrews 12:2

…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

What does it mean to “look unto Jesus”?

To turn away from anything that may distract…and to focus on Jesus

Implied in this passage is the “why” of looking unto Jesus

He is the “Author” of faith

“a leader who pioneers the way for many others to follow”

The founder or originator

Colossians 1:17 NKJV
And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

He is the “Finisher” of faith

One who is “bringing a process to its finish”

He finished all that was required to provide eternal life.

John 19:30 NKJV
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Philippians 1:6 NKJV
…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ

How do we stay focused on Jesus?

Priority

Obedience

Fellowship

From the cross to the throne!
